  • Larry Mazzola, Jr. Named To Rec & Park Commission
    Updated On: Jun 13, 2017

Local 38 Business Manager Larry Mazzola, Jr. has been named to the San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission by Mayor Edwin Lee.
Brother Mazzola was sworn in as a commissioner last month in a brief ceremony in Mayor Lee’s office at City Hall. His appointment comes after extensive experience on the San Francisco Film Commission and on the Treasure Island Development Authority Commission.
“I’m very proud to be named to the Recreation and Park Commission,” said Mazzola, Jr, following his swearing in. “San Francisco is renown for having one of the great urban park systems anywhere, and I’m looking forward to maintaining this proud tradition. Our parks are a great asset for our citizens and visitors.”
The Recreation and Park Commission has authority over more than 220 parks in the City, ranging from Golden Gate Park and the San Francisco Zoo to small community and neighborhood parks. The seven-member Commission is, according to the Department website, “primarily a policy-making body, establishing the policies by which the Recreation and Park Department operates. The Commission is responsible for the over 220 parks, playgrounds and open spaces throughout San Francisco and two outside the City limits. These include destinations such as Camp Mather, Golden Gate Park, Harding Golf Course, Coit Tower, Palace of Fine Arts.”
The Recreation and Parks Depart-ment also employs several hundred city workers, including laborers, electricians and plumbers.
“City workers have played a large part in making San Francisco’s park and the City’s recreational programs among the most successful anywhere,” said Mazzola, Jr. “As Business Manager of Local 38 and as President of the San Francisco Building and Construction Trades Council, I am proud to ensure those workers continue to have a voice in San Francisco government.”
As a Recreation and Park Commissioner Brother Mazzola, Jr. continues a proud Local 38 tradition as former Local 38 Business Manager Larry Mazzola, Sr., served on the Recreation and Park Commission during his leadership at Local 38.
