The Local 38 Committee on Political Education (COPE) recommends the following voted for the upcoming Presidential Primary Election, set for February 5, 2008. These recommendations are made on the basis of extensive research and discussion by members of COPE, and are considered to be in the best interest of Local 38 and of its members and families. We urge all Local 38 members and supporters to vote for COPE endorsed candidates and issues on February 5.

PROP. 91- Transportation Funding ................................NO

This measure was designed to protect transportation funds from being spent on other projects or programs. But because of initiatives previously approved by California voters, the measure is no longer necessary. Even the original backers of the measure submitted a ballot argument urging a no vote on the measure.

PROP. 92 – Community College Funding.....................YES

Community colleges play an important part in vocational and technical education, including Building Trades apprenticeship programs. This measure would limit costs to students and provide stable funding for community colleges.

PROP. 93 – Term Limits ................................................NO

This measure reduces the number of years a legislator can serve from 14 to 12 years, but allows all of that time to be served in either the Senate or the Assembly.
