Apprenticeship Program
Qualifications and Application Process

Local 38's Apprenticeship Program conducts written
examinations every two years. The last test was given in June 2008.
The Apprenticeship Program will hold its next test in 2011. The
specific test date will be posted on the website when it is
determined.
Apprentices must be 18 or older, possess a high school diploma or G.E.D, and have a California driver's
license.
Step 1: Fill out a written application.
Step 2: Successful applicants will then be asked to take a written examination covering general
knowledge.
Step 3: Applicants who pass the written examination will be scheduled for an interview with
representatives of the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) that governs the Training Program.

Step 4: Successful applicants are placed on a numbered list. The number of openings in the
Apprenticeship Program is determined twice annually by the JATC.
Step 5: Applicants are notified as to when their classroom training begins.
Step 6: Trainees are indentured as apprentices after they begin job-site training.
