Apprenticeship Program

Qualifications and Application Process

The next application date is May 2025.

Local 38's Apprenticeship Program conducts written examinations every two years.  Please call the Training Department at (415) 562-3838 if you have additional questions.

Apprentices must be 18 or older, possess a high school diploma or G.E.D, and have a Birth Certificate or valid California driver's license.

Step 1: Fill out a written application.

Step 2: Successful applicants will then be asked to take a written examination covering general knowledge.

Step 3: Applicants who pass the written examination will be scheduled for an interview with representatives of the Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee (JATC) that governs the Training Program.

Step 4: Successful applicants are placed on a numbered list. The number of openings in the Apprenticeship Program is determined twice annually by the JATC.

Step 5: Applicants are notified as to when their classroom training begins.

Step 6: Trainees are indentured as apprentices after they begin job-site training.
